Euchre Tournament

  • 200 Mechanic Street Williamston, MI, 48895 United States (map)

Friends of Williamston Parks will be hosting its annual Euchre tournament at the Red Cedar Jubilee to raise money for park projects. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place, and for most loaner hands. Grab your friends and join us for a fun night of Euchre! Euchre is a trick taking game with a trump, played by four players in teams of two. For this tournament, we’ll be playing by the following rules:

Dealer Rules:

  • Starting dealer is decided by the first turned up black jack.

  • Stick the dealer applies (dealer must call trump if every player passes).

  • If a misdeal occurs, the dealer can deal one more time, so long as the top card in the kitty has not been turned over by the dealer. If the top card has been turned by the dealer, the deal is passed to the next player. If two misdeals in a row occur, the deal is passed to the next player regardless if the top card has been turned.

Table Shuffle Rules:

  • You may sit down with a partner of your choice to begin but teams will be split after each game.

  • The losing team will get up and move to the next table in ascending order: table one goes to table two, two goes to three, etc. Final table goes to table one.

  • Ace is considered the highest card for team matchups and breaking tie scores.

  • Once sat, each player draws a card to determine partners: high card with high, low card with low.

  • To determine which team stays at the table in the event of a tie score, one player from each team will draw a card; high card wins.

Game Play & Scoring:

  • There are 8 games, each with a maximum of 8 hands. Each game is limited to 15 minutes. The score for each game is not limited to 10 points. If you have not finished all 8 hands by the end of the 15 minutes, finish that hand and record your score for the hands you played.

  • If your team gets euchred, both players pay $0.25 cents into the euchre cup at your table. If you need quarters, a volunteer will have some available for purchase.

  • At the end of 8 hands played, players record their score on the tally sheet, plus their personal total number of loners. Points are as follows:

    • 1 point for a winning hand with 3-4 tricks

    • 2 points for taking all 5 tricks with a partner

    • 2 points for euchring the other team (your team takes 3+ tricks when they called trump)

    • 2 points to the opposing team for a renege (didn’t follow suit when able to, and caught)

    • 4 points for all 5 tricks on a loner hand (1 point awarded for less than 5 tricks)

      • A loner requires the initials of the opposing team’s players. Only the person who went alone should take credit for the personal loner hand (not the partner of the loner). The points won from the loner will apply to both players of that winning hand.

  • At the end of the tournament, each player should tally their TOTAL SCORE, plus their total number of loners, and hand their sheet to event volunteers to determine the winners.

  • Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and to the player with the most loners. If there is a tie score for any placeholders, then the players who have tied cut the cards, high card wins
